The blood wyrm, generally known as "Caraxes" was born before 72 AC. Caraxes was typically a curious and crafty beast and he was very loyal to his dragon rider at all times. Physically Caraxes is like a snake type with a color of Red.

The Prince of Dragon Stone (Aemon Targaryen) was the first rider of the Caraxes. The Dragonkeepers of the Dragonpit named Caraxes as the blood wyrm since Caraxes was the most dangerous dragon among the rest of the dragons in Dragonpit. Caraxes is well experienced in battles and he has a history with legendary dragons like Vhagar and Meleys since the Aemon Targaryen is a sibling of the other two Targaryen who rode Vhagar and meleys. Three of these dragons flew together and they faced battles together.

Caraxes was with Prince Aemon for several battles, the Dornish was one of them and the war between Tarth was done with the help of Cameron Tarth and Boremund Baratheon, and in the same war, Caraxes fought better than the Valerian fleet. Aemon did love Caraxes. He spent more time with the beast.

When the Aemon Targaryen was murdered by someone Caraxes was eating goats without knowing what has happened to his rider.

The rogue prince Daemon Targaryen was his second rider during 105 AC. The Dragonkeepers decided to let Daemon choose Caraxes, The Dragonkeepers were telling that the dragon was the rightful one for Daemon, since the Daemon was arrogant and hot-tempered person Dragonkeepers suggested Caraxes. It seems both of them have the same attitudes therefore this will be a good combination.

Daemon used Caraxes to burn Stepstone and kill Prince Craghas Drahar. Caraxes used his full abilities to make the daemon safe and once he learned that the war could be a threat to his Dragon Rider, he escaped with the Prince.

At the start of Dance of the Dragon, Daemon uses Caraxes until almost the dance has ended. Caraxes helped the daemon to take over the king landing on Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Daemon ended his life as well as his mount's life at the battle of Goads-eye, the Vhagar (The largest dragon at that moment), and his Dragon Riders Aemond Targaryen fought with two of them until their death. When Daemon escaped from Caraxes back to kill Aemond the control of the four of them has gone. Everybody started to fall into the lake and two dragons ripped each other finally, Vhagar died with his Dragon rider and the Caraxes also fell into the lake he saved his life, however, the wounds were critical even though he pulled himself out of the lake. He ended his life in front of the Harrenhal walls.
